I am going away at the end of next month. After looking at last year’s vacation clothes it is obvious I need an update. If you could suggest some key pieces for vacation and the coming seasons, what would they be? Kathy R., Kennebunkport, ME
A: This is the situation many of us find ourselves in. A great pair of shorts in a neutral color would be ideal. We love a fitted Bermuda (we’ll have some in-store soon from Sanctuary, Vince, Alice + Olivia to name a few). This silhouette allows for you to create casual and dressier outfits; tops and shoes will change up the look here. A great above-the-knee skirt, and a light-weight cardi will give you options when you add in a couple of printed tops. Opt for a jersey dress, as you will love the ease of just throwing it on. Beyond that, pick up fresh colorful tees and a fabulous new bathing suit! This should round out your vacay look and give you a great starting point for spring. Happy travels!

Its Wedding Season!

By Eva Roberts

Ok, so since we are all fabulous women with loads of friends, it is inevitable that we will be invited to at least ONE wedding this summer… Or Five….. What’s a girl to do? There are so many options, & time of day, setting, and level of formality are all factors. Check out our suggestions.

Morning/Early afternoon/Outdoor wedding- Go for something, light, breezy, floral. A sundress with a matching cardigan is ideal. A lightweight linen pashmina wrap is also a great topper. Ideas below:

Evening wedding- any of the following options, or variations of, would be perfection. Pearls are a classic touch to ANY dress, as shown here. A bright pashmina lightens up a simple black dress.

Options for both day or night: Depending on how you accessorize, these could be worn at any hour. Wearing pants in a luxurious fabric such as satin or silk is perfectly acceptable, as long as you pair them with a fancy top as shown below.

When it comes to handbags at weddings, small and chic is the way to go, just big enough to carry a camera, compact, and your keys. The straw bag is fab for day, and the quilted metallic silver is a great option for day or night.

So once you have this covered, breath easy, enjoy the champagne, and have a blast… Cheers!

Accessories in the Spotlight – Big Buddha

What will your next great bag be? Make it a Big Buddha bag in faux-croc and you’ll be so happy you did! This luxe, light-weight super roomy find will take you anywhere. I especially love how it manages to be both uptown and downtown all at the same time. An ideal carryall. It’ll give you a sassy smirk on your face just knowing it only cost $72. How great is that?

P.S. They’re a great holiday gift! So stock up now, they’re going fast!

Fashion Forward and Budget Savvy

Times may be tough financially but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on looking good. It just means a different approach to how you do it. Here are our suggestions that will keep you stylish without falling deeper into the credit card black hole.

The age old fashion mantra, “invest in key pieces” couldn’t be more true to form then it is now. So, the first rule of thumb should always be, spend money on key styles. We suggest a statement coat, a terrific handbag, a fabulous pair of flats or boots (as the season dictates) and of course, the LBD. Better known as, the little black dress. These pieces should always represent quality investments that will last season after season. Keep in mind that these are also “first impression” pieces and should not look trendy or cheap.

Here are some of our picks that fall into both categories of high and low dressing:

A statement piece of jewelry, like our Kenneth Jay Lane enamel animal bracelet ($112) or a bold pair of Portia Clark round drop earrings ($75.00) can draw an instant wow factor without breaking the bank.

The hoop earring is making its big comeback and can really add pop to any outfit. Helene M. has many great options ranging from $18.00 to $36.00.

We can’t live without our “Reva” the well known ballet flat by Tory Burch ($195). This is the perfect investment shoe that works with so many looks and will instantly add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

The ultimate handbag! Although this price doesn’t fall under the category of  investment pieces it certainly could pass as one. We are loving Big Buddha’s faux croc union bag. The look screams expensive but the price will make you smile.  Only $72, this bag has got to be on your holiday list!

Last but not least the LBD (little black dress) should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe.  Our favorite is Diane von Furstenberg’s Jeanne wrap at $298.  Iconic, classy and completely worth the investment.

The bottom line is to invest in the bones of your wardrobe and work from there.  Just remember; only spend your hard earned dollars on pieces that will last the trends of our time.
