Presentant Julia!
We wanted to introduce you to Julia, one of our stylists in our Portsmouth location, so we did a little Q & A to let you get better acquainted!
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself
A: I’m 27 years old and live in Portsmouth with my amazing boyfriend. I constantly surround myself with art and music and find much of my style is influenced by both of those things. My style is a good balance of feminine and edgy and my wardrobe is stocked full of both current pieces and vintage finds I’ve been collecting for years. In my spare time I deal vintage clothing and enjoy immersing myself in the local arts and music scene in Portsmouth.
Q: How did you become involved with fashion?
A:Honestly, my love of fashion started before I can even remember. When I was three years old I got “lost” in Jordan Marsh - they had to shut down the whole store and look for me. When they finally found me I was in the shoe section trying on patent leather pumps! That kind of set the bar for the next 24 years. I have had a life-long love affair with fashion!
Q: What is your absolute favorite part of the job?
A: I love love LOVE our customers, so dealing with them everyday really is a treat. I also have a total soft spot for visual merchandising. Merchandising the store and arranging the windows and displays is like playtime for me! Plus it’s a great way to figure out which pieces work best together when we get new merchandise in.
Q: Favorite Brands?
A: Too many to list! But a few of my favorites are Rebecca Taylor, Diane Von Furstenberg, Beth Bowley and Alice+Olivia.
Q: Who are your style icons?
A: Most of my style icons are still the women I admired while I was growing up - Barbra Streisand, Stevie Nicks, Debbie Harry - but I also draw a lot of inspiration from Florence Welch (of the band “Florence And The Machine”) and Rachel Zoe. They’re both constantly including statement vintage pieces in their outfits that I can’t get enough of!
Q: What is your most memorable style moment?
A: When I was 14 I sewed my first REAL piece of clothing - it was this really pretty slip-style dress for the Valentine’s dance at my high school. I chose this gorgeous cream-colored silk crepe with this huge vintage rose print. I was so proud of myself.
Q: Any advice for the customers?
A: Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder but style comes from within. If you feel amazing in what you’re wearing, you’ll look amazing in what you’re wearing - whether it’s a t-shirt and jeans or a DVF wrap dress. And *trust* us - we adore you and we just want you to look and feel your best!
